‘Doorgedraaid’ is a showpiece specially designed for a customer.
The name of the piece literally means ‘rotate further’, loosely translated, but in Dutch, the term doorgedraaid is also a frase to illustrate someone going a little crazy. The piece, with a name that has a double meaning, took quit the ‘craziness’ to make. First, the beam for the piece, needed to be assembled by stacking 5 pieces with the almond shape design unto each other, while making sure the pieces were perfectly aligned in the corners of the piece.
After that, the pedestal also had to be turned. This took al lot of effort, seeing as the ash wood piece was 57 meters wide on the lathe, while being a rectangle. This caused the piece to rotate a lot in the air, causing the chisel to take hard hits.
